Hi my name is Saqib, commonly known as Saq by many of my customers. I am the proud founder and owner of NexGen, Burnley's number one and most trusted mobile phone centre.

How we started in the 90's

Although I’d love to take all the credit for establishing NexGen as Burnley’s first point of call for mobile phone repairs, I can’t, that accolade must go to my father.

It was my father who sowed the seeds, by allowing me to aid him and experience the hustle and bustle of the market stalls in the early 90’s selling games console software and PC accessories. He educated and nurtured me by investing his time and energy to ensure that I was picking up everyday social skills by encouraging me to interact and deal with our customers. This, for a quiet minded, timid, 11 year old was initially quite daunting but using my fathers experience and having him present by my side instilled not only confidence in me but more importantly a passion and enjoyment in interacting and dealing with our customers. Bearing in mind we were just trading on a market stall, i can still vividly remember receiving my first all important handshake of appreciation from a satisfied customer. That gave me a buzz which cant quite be described. I may have only sold him a box of floppy disks for £7.99 but to me it felt as though I’d just signed and sealed a multi-million pound ground breaking deal for our business.

The famous saying ‘the customer is always right’ was drilled into me from day one, a saying which I didn’t really understand in its entirety at the time. However, 30 years on, I believe, it has been that same slogan that has been our worst kept secret in the success of NexGen.

Fast forward to 2002

NexGen was born in my ‘Aha’ moment. It was in 2002 when NexGen, my baby was born.

I upgraded our location and shifted from the open market in Burnley to the more formal indoor market hall in Burnley. At NexGen I followed on from my fathers games console business along with being stockists of accessories for mobile phones.

My latest ‘Aha’ moment came when I damaged the screen on my Nokia phone and reluctantly took it to The Carphone Warehouse to get fixed. What an experience! They not only had me jumping through hoops, they wanted to charge me a fortune for what I perceived to be a relatively cheap job and if that wasn’t enough, they said it would be 3 weeks before I’d have my beloved Nokia back.

It seems that my accident with the Nokia proved to a huge blessing in disguise as I set out on a personal mission to repair my own phone. Once parts and tools were sourced the repair took me two hours (not bad considering its the first time i have ever fixed a phone).

My enthusiasm and passion for mobile phones coupled with my determination of ensuring to give the best possible service to customers encouraged me to make changes to the mobile phone repair process to the people of Burnley and surrounding areas at least.

Nokia, Motorola, Philips, Samsung, whatever the make and model was back then, we began to repair them. We soon offered a hugely successful same day, onsite repair service for our customers. The mobile phone industry has seen a transformation over the last 20 years that has been exponential, but, essentially it is this repair process and model initiated in 2002 that has been replicated, refined and magnified over the last 18 years. This has enabled NexGen to continuously evolve and be at the forefront of the mobile phone repair industry.

So it’s no surprise we are still leading the way in the repair of smartphones, tablets, game consoles and laptops. 18 years on, we undertake smartphone repairs in under 30 mins, the ‘big’ high street phone companies are now repairing them within 2 weeks. Who’s evolved the most and who’s giving the customers the level of service they truly deserve? I’ll leave that for you to work out.
